The regular temperature monitoring of hot & cold-water systems is a basic requirement of the HSE's ACOP L8 and is far more involved than putting a thermometer under a couple of taps. Failing to actively monitor, record and manage your water temperatures in a "Technically Competent" manner can leave people at serious risk and leave you liable to fines & prosecution.
Ensuring your water temperatures meet the requirements of the ACOP L8 throughout the entire hot & cold-water system is the safest and most cost-effective way to prevent and control Legionella Bacteria. Even when you are competent, remembering to take water temperatures, getting to the outlets you need to inspect, recording the temperatures and ensuring they are compliant with the HSE's ACOP L8 can easily go wrong.
How do you know if you are competent? The ACOP L8 does not state exact competence requirements. However, plumbers are taught the correct way to take and monitor water temperatures in City & Guilds and NVQ Level 3 plumbing qualifications, so it is reasonable to assume that is the correct required standard.
How Water Wise Services Can Help
Remote Temperature Monitoring
At Water Wise Services one of our newest and most advanced products is the LinkThru system. The LinkThru system is a remote temperature monitoring device.
The system is battery powered and works using a mobile data signal so does not need to be connected to an external power source, access any phone lines or the buildings internet service making LinkThru a truly remote system.
During a risk assessment our team will identify where and when water temperatures need to be taken & recorded. We will talk you through how the system works and how much it will cost to meet your monitoring requirements.
The unit takes water temperatures at set intervals and sends them to a data bank where we can produce temperature monitoring reports at any time allowing full compliance with the HSE's ACOP L8.
Proactive monitoring allows the LinkThru system to send alert messages when water temperatures drop or rise above pre-set limits. There is no need to wait for a report to find out that you may be at risk. Our team will regularly monitor alerts and reports informing you of issues as they arise.
There is a regularly monthly fee to use the service, the cost covers the rental of the unit, data usage, regular reports and proactive monitoring of water temperatures. Many of our customers find this the cheapest and most efficient way to take & monitor their water temperatures. Ensuring your water temperatures are correct can also eliminate the need to carry out Legionella testing saving even more time and money.
