Having a Legionella Risk Assessment in place is for many people a legal requirement under Health & Safety law. Legionella Risk Assessments need to be carried out by someone who is competent to determine the possible risk from Legionella bacteria. To remain valid a risk assessment should be renewed at least once every two years. Simply not having a risk assessment in place could be seen by the courts as a breach of health & safety law.
