Legionella Risk Assessments, Testing, Training and Control & Prevention in line with the HSE's ACOP L8 in York, Selby, Harrogate, Skipton, Scarborough, Filey, Ripon or anywhere in North Yorkshire. In Yorkshire we generally enjoy water with a good to high mineral content along with the associated health benefits but this high mineral content can increase the risk of scale and mineral deposits which in turn can promote bacterial growth.
If you are a Landlord, Letting Agent, Employer or in charge of or responsible for a property such as a Care Home, GP Practice, Dentist or Community Centre to name a few then you may have an obligation under Health & Safety law to have a Legionella Risk Assessment carried out as well as other preventative measures.
Not taking action to control & prevent Legionella can lead to fines, prosecution and even imprisonment. It could affect your insurance and membership of professional & governing bodies like the Care Quality Commission.
Our range of Legionella Services are designed to meet the requirements laid down in the Health & Safety Executives Approved Code of Practice ACOP L8 whilst still being uncomplicated and easy to follow.
What Do I Need To Do? In all cases the first thing you need is a risk assessment. The risk assessment needs to be carried out by someone who is competent to determine the risk of Legionella. The risk assessment will then recommened a series of actions to prevent and control Legionella bacteria. The recommended actions will vary depending on the level of risk.
Are We Competent? As a Duty Holder or person in charge of premises it is your responsibility to ensure anyone who undertakes work in your property is competent to do so. At Water Wise we have over a decades water industry related experience and are;

What Happens After the Risk Assessment? After the risk assessment has been carried out, the recommended control & prevention measures need to be put in place or continued if the risk assessment shows they are being effective. The recommended control & prevention actions may include;
Weekly System Outlet/System Flushing.
Monthly Temperature Monitoring.
Quarterly Cleaning & Descale of Spray Outlets.
Regular Maintenance of TMV Valves.
Annual Legionella Testing.
Cleaning & Disinfection of Cold Water Storage Tanks.
Legionella Awareness Training.
Removing "Dead Legs" from the system.
What Happens if Things go Wrong? Legionella can be potentially fatal. The change in sentancing guidelines for health & safety failures has seen large increases in fines and even cases where the Crown Prosecution Service has authorised charges of Corporate Manslaughter for health & safety failures in relation to Legionella.
When someone falls ill because of Legionella various agencies like the Environmental Health Agency attempt to find the source of the outbreak. They visit and inspect sites which may be linked, such as places of work or gyms. If short falls in legionella control & prevention are found you can expect further action to be taken even if you are not directly linked to the outbreak.
