A Legionella Risk Assessment is the first step to ensuring compliance with the HSE's ACOP L8 and is a legal requirement under health & safety law. Risk assessments need to be carried out by someone who is competent to determine the possible risk from Legionella bacteria. Our risk assessors are certified by Trust Mark who work with Trading Standards and ensure that service providers meet Government endorsed quality standards. Trust Mark is the only Government Endorsed Competent Person Scheme in the UK and operates under Government Licence from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Simply not having a risk assessment or failing to have one carried out competently could be seen by the courts as a breach of health & safety law. There is no exception made for the size or type of organisation, the size or type of water system or the number of employees and volunteers involved. A Legionella risk assessment is only valid for a period of up to 2 years which is the maximum allowed by the HSE, after 2 years a new risk assessment needs to be carried out. During the 2 year period the assessment needs to be regularly reviewed along with the control & prevention measures to ensure the assessment is still up to date and the measures are being effective. For that reason, our risk assessments come with a built-in review log and document control clearly stating the assessment date, when the assessment expires and how long the assessment needs to be retained for to meet the requirements of the ACOP L8.

Our Risk Assessment Service
We carry out Legionella Risk Assessments with or without Legionella testing based on your requirements. Legionella testing is not always recommended but is required at sites that present an increased risk such as a care home. Whilst carrying out your risk assessment we may recommend testing if we find an increased level of risk during the inspection.
Each risk assessment involves one of our team calling to your property, carrying out a physical inspection of the site, inspecting control & prevention records, assessing any training requirements, carrying out water testing (if required) and completing a written Legionella risk assessment based on the findings of the inspection.
For landlords, local authorities and housing associations that control a significant number of properties we also offer a "representative" risk assessment service, section 2.146 of the HSE's ACOP L8 allows for a representative risk assessment to be carried out for housing stock of a similar age and design.
