Meeting the standards of Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 04-01 - Safe Water in Healthcare Premises is a requirement for gp practices, regulated activities and registration with the CQC.
HTM 04-01 is referenced by the HSE's ACOP L8 and requires higher standards of design and management of hot and cold-water systems than other types of sites, the Building Regulations or the Water Regulations. HTM 04-01 requires the use of specialist contractors and Water Safe registered plumbers to ensure public health.
Are You Testing Your Water? Neither the HSE's ACOP L8 or the Dept of Health's HTM 04-01 or HTM 01-05 require you to test your water unless an increased risk has been identified. As an example of an increased risk the HSE use the specific example of water temperatures consistanly not meeting requirements.
