Requirements of Department of Health's Technical Memorandum (HTM) 04-01 and Specification D08 for Legionella Bacteria.

Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 04-01 was released by the Department of Health in 2016.  Meeting the requirements of HTM 04-01 is a requirement of registration with the CQC and is applicable to all health and care sites.  HTM 04-01 does not replace the HSE's ACOP L8.  HTM 04-01 works along side the ACOP L8 and expands on the enhanced requirements to minimise, control and prevent the risk of Legionella in health and care sites.  The enhanced requirements include increased hot water temperatures and the use of Water Safe registered engineers to ensure water hygiene and safeguard public health.

HTM 04-01 has been released in several parts.

Part A - Design, Installation and Commissioning

Part B - Operational Management

Part C - Pseudomonas aeruginosa - advise for augmented care units

and in 2017 a supplement was released.

Performance Specification D08: Thermostatic Mixing Valve (healthcare premises)

Anyone who works in a health or care setting and is involved in assessing, managing or monitoring Legionella at the site should have an awareness of HTM 04-01.  You need to ensure the design, installation and management of the water systems at your site meets the criteria of HTM 04-01.
